⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Asterios
Age: Unknown. It's implied he's a full grown adult, so at the very least he's past 20.
Canon: Fate Grand Order.
Canon Point: After his "death" in Okeanos, he is summoned by the Player Character.

Background:

Once upon a time in Greece, King Minos ruled the land with his wife Pasiphae. But when Minos broke a promise to the gods, they in turn sought revenge - they used their powers to make Pasiphae fall madly in love/lust with a bull, and as a result, she gave birth to the half-human and half-bull monstrosity called the Minotaur. Not knowing what to do with such a horrifying creature, Minos ordered a labyrinth to be built to house the beast, and from then on he sent in innocent humans to serve as the monster's meal. For ages, that was the Minotaur's life - his real name, Asterios, ignored and forgotten.

Asterios longed to feel the grass under his feet and the breeze on his skin, and so roamed the massive labyrinth every day to try and seek his freedom. With the human prisoners being the only source of food available, he was forced to eat them even as they begged for mercy. As the years passed, his guilt over these murders grew until it outweighed his longing for freedom, and when he finally did make it out of the maze, he chose to return as he felt it was his proper punishment. Thus when he was finally slain by Theseus, he got both his freedom and the punishment he "earned".

Skip forward centuries, and we have Chaldea, an organization trying to stop history from being destroyed by powerful forces using the Holy Grail. One such period in history that was being warped by the magic of the Holy Grail was Okeanos, which was now suddenly both the age of pirates and the age of the Greek gods. As a result of the Grail's power, Asterious was summoned, and found himself back in the labyrinth, which now crawled with monsters - but this time, he had actual company. The goddess Euryale was now with him, and while she had a sharp tongue and wasn't terribly polite, she did call him by his real name, which was more than anyone else had ever done for him. As a result, he vowed to protect her from anyone and anything.

The Avatar/Player Character of Chaldea (Who from hereon out we'll call Ritsuka) arrived with their own summoned Heroes to try and find out what happened. Asterios thought they were an enemy and attacked, but thankfully Ritsuka managed to convince him that they were on his side - as it turns out, enemies such as Edward Rider and Jason of the Argonauts wanted to seize Euryale and use her power. As such, Asterios and Euryale joined the team party, with Asterios slowly becoming attached to Ritsuka and the rest of the crew. If they could just defeat all their enemies and get the Grail out of the time period, everything would return to normal and Euryale would remain safe.

Time and time again Asterios attacked in rage, often disobeying orders due to his rage and desire to protect the first person who had ever shown him a hint of kindness. Even when his life was in danger, even when when he felt pain beyond measure, he would never give up or surrender. Jason's team soon revealed they had an unstoppable force on their hands - the insanely powerful Heracles, who couldn't be killed. Asterios knew he couldn't kill him by normal means, but he knew the man could be stopped if he was held down - for all eternity. Despite the pleading cries of the friends he had made, including Euryale, Asterios threw himself at Heracles - that's when Hektor, of the Jason team, launched his spear between the two of them, trying to get rid him. But Asterios never let go, not even as he began to die, instead dragging Heracles down into the sea to keep him there and ensure team Chaldea could win.

But this wouldn't be the last Ritsuka saw of Asterios. Upon returning to their time line, they were able to summon him as a Heroic Spirit, this time making sure he stayed around for good.

Personality:

At first glance, Asterios really does look like a bloodthirsty monster. Even when he smiles, it looks demonic. But beneath the scars and horns, his is a gentle soul that longs to be left alone. It's not that he enjoys fighting or killing, but he is aware that the world is a cruel, awful place and not everyone will play fair. When he fights, he releases all of his rage that years of loneliness and madness have built up inside him. As such, he won't be satisfied until his opponent is dead, making him a dangerous opponent. He typically only fights to protect those he cares about or under "Ritsuka's" orders, and he knows Ritsuka fights to also protect. But if he is enraged, such as being reminded of his past or being treated like a villain, he will explode with anger and do all in his power to silence them. But a call of his name, to remind him of his remaining humanity, can try and help quell his anger.

When he isn't angry, he's actually very calm and quiet. He doesn't speak much, and when he does, it's usually in slow sentences. This sets him apart from several Berserkers, who have gone so insane they have lost their ability to speak at all. As a result of his upbringing, his education is severely lacking. However, this doesn't mean he is "dumb", he just doesn't know. In the labyrinth with Ritsuka, it was shown he has completely memorized his surroundings so perfectly he even made a cohesive map with the routes and patrols taken on by the other monsters inside. On the ship with Ritsuka and the pirates, he showed a remarkable insight and knowledge of navigation.

If a person is kind to him, they earn his loyalty pretty much instantly. Since he was treated so horribly in the original labyrinth, the mere act of saying his name is enough to warm his heart. In his Interlude, where Ritsuka sometimes enter the dreams of her Heroic Summons, it's shown he is gentle to small animals and often carries treats for them to snack on. But the Interlude also showed that the deaths of the humans he ate will forever haunt him. At times he's felt that instead of eating them, he should have let himself starve to death. Because of this, he is forever seeking atonement for his sins, and is afraid of becoming a heartless monster for real. Because he doesn't trust himself, he often distances himself from people, Ritsuka included, as he fears one day he'll snap and hurt them.

Abilities:

- Wields a heavy labrys that has been split in two.
- As a Berseker, he has "Madness Enhancement", which gives him super strength at the cost of his sanity.
- Noble Phantasm : when he has built up enough energy, he can summon an image of the labyrinth, called "Chaos Labyrinth: Eternally Unchanging Labyrinth", which lowers an opponent's attack and defense.

Skills:
-"Monstrous Strength" which can slightly increase his strength. HAVE I MENTIONED HE'S INHUMANLY STRONG YET????
-"Natural Demon" , momentarily increases defense.
-"Avyssos of Labrys", momentarily increases chance of critical hits, and, again, increases strength.

Alignment: Sosyne.

Asterios's anger controls him most of the time, causing him to become a powerful monster. His anger is his most terrifying quality, making him an almost unstoppable destructive force. He's angry at his life, and at what he is. However, whenever he isn't angry, he appears perfectly calm and placid, even as he hides his sadness and loneliness. If he was simply left alone, or even better, treated as a decent human being, he would always be calm and docile.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

General Sample: Test Drive!

Emotion Sample:

Asterios stared for a very long time at the single tree, blinking slowly as thought. He had been told all he needed to in order to grow flowers and plants was to merely "feel happy", and even though it sounded like a simple task, he was at a loss. This particular tree was dying, with brittle branches and lack of leaves to show its poor health. It made for a perfect test subject, and at the same time he wanted to help it. It wasn't the tree's fault it was dying, after all. It deserved to live. But how did one force themselves to be happy? Happiness had been such a foreign thing for so many years that he wasn't entirely sure how it did feel.

He tentatively put one of his large hands on the tree's side, feeling it's decaying bark. "I... am sorry..." He said quietly, head lowered, eyes closed. Of course he couldn't help the tree. He could only destroy things, that was all he was ever good at. A creature like him wasn't made to help anyone or anything. As usual, when this cycle of depression started, it was hard to stop. Why was he born? Why was he alive? Would it be better for everyone if he was slain again? That's when he felt the drop. Then another. Then - he looked up, puzzled. Hadn't it been nice and sunny mere minutes ago? Now there was a small raincloud above his horns, beginning to drizzle down on him. He blinked at it, not terribly bothered by the change in water, just puzzled. After a moment, his eyes widened in understanding - perhaps, just perhaps, he'd done something right. Plants needed water, and it had been awfully dry lately around here, hadn't it?

Oh, but he couldn't be too happy about this, otherwise the rain would stop. The tree needed the water. He nodded once to himself, satisfied, and then took his time sitting underneath the tree's branches. So long as he didn't feel too greatly in any one direction, the rain would stay - after all, his depression would always be with him, even in his brightest moments. He laid sat against the tree, never once considering that rain could come from other places. No one had yet to explain the differences between cold rain and warm rain.

Cold rain - that was the loss of your home, of your friends, of agony and tears. But Asterios was content here, taking steady breaths of fresh air, a gift that had been denied to him for so long. How could he not enjoy it, even if he didn't recognize enjoyment? The warmth of freedom, the warmth of choices, the warmth of contentment, all of that created warm rain that gently bathed him in a summer shower. He felt himself start to smile, and put an end to that, just in case. The warmth continued on regardless, with an extra leaf blossoming from one brittle branch.
